Bastien Nihant
Bastien Nihant was born in 1999 in Liège. He studied Biomedical Sciences at Maastricht University and graduated in 2020. For his final internship, he worked with Dr. Florient Caiment in the department of Toxicogenomics to analyze raw cardiac gene transcription data. This introduction to bioinformatics was a motivation to pursue a master's degree in Systems Biology, again in Maastricht, which he obtained with a Cum Laude in 2022. For his internship he joined the Maastricht Center for Systems Biology, supervised by Dr. Ir. Michiel Adriaens. The aim of this project was to generate genome-scale models of metabolism in the context of dilated cardiomyopathy. This work was continued and extended during a one-year contract as a research officer. He will now join the research group of Prof. Dr. Stephane Heymans as a PhD student. His research will focus on the analysis and integration of multi-omics and clinical data in the context of cardiomyopathies and heart failure.
