Maurits Sikking
Maurits Sikking was born in Eindhoven in 1992 and successfully passed the entrance test to start the medical program of the KU Leuven in Belgium. During his studies Maurits was engaged in several research activities. He was a research student in the group of Prof. Pirenne and Prof. Monbaliu (transplant surgery) and he was a board member of the association of research students in Leuven (LVSO, Leuvense vereniging voor Studentonderzoekers). Maurits completed his Master in Medicine with distinction (cum laude) and wrote his thesis in collaboration with the Radboud university medical center in Nijmegen titled ‘Brain Metastasis from Colorectal Cancer: a national population-based study’ under the supervision of prof. Aertgeerts (KULeuven) and prof. Nagtegaal (Radboud UMC). After completion of his Master’s degree he did an internship in cardiology at the Zuyderland medical center in Heerlen.
Maurits his PhD track will mainly focus on translating basic research into the clinic of patients with dilated cardiomyopathy. In his spare time Maurits loves to enjoy life in the company of friends and family. He recently got engaged with his girlfriend, who is a PhD candidate in medicine as well.
